618 Church Street was home to Nashville’s most iconic department store for 90 years. Castner-Knott Dry Goods, more commonly known as Castner-Knott, moved to its five-story location on Church Street in 1906. The former department store remained one of the largest department stores in Nashville until it closed in 1996. Shopping downtown at this landmark was a well-remembered experience and beloved memory for many Nashvillians.
